NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — North Kingstown police are warning residents to keep their vehicles locked after one was stolen during a "rash" of break-ins early on Sunday.
Captain John MacCoy Jr. told 12 News on Monday there were five victims on record, but other vehicles were rummaged through and nothing was taken.
The break-ins all happened in the section of town that's south of Route 102 and west of Route 1, according to police.
"The matter is under investigation and leads are being followed up on as we speak," MacCoy added.
The police department took to social media to caution residents, urging them to make sure their vehicles are locked by 9 p.m. every night and have no valuables inside.
Police also said to close garage doors, make sure outside lights are turned on, and report suspicious activity.
"If you notice anything suspicious, trust your instincts — don’t ignore that feeling when something seems off," MacCoy said.
Concerned residents can call North Kingstown police at (401) 294-3311.
