DUI Task Force ramps up patrols over holiday weekend

NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) -- The Rhode Island DUI Task Force will continue to be on the lookout for impaired drivers throughout the holiday weekend.

"Working together, we hope to make this year`s Memorial Day weekend travel one that is safe and enjoyable for all traveling our roadways," Lt. Don Barrington of the North Kingstown Police Department said in a release.

All motorists are asked to call 911 should they see a vehicle whose operator they believe maybe impaired on the roads.

The Rhode Island DUI task is comprised of members from the Rhode Island State Police, local police from across the state; in addition to the RIDOT Office of Highway Safety and the RI Attorney General`s Office.

Last year, state police said more that 30 people were arrested for driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol during Memorial Day weekend.
