SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — South Kingstown's school board committee met Thursday night to discuss updates about the new high school building.

The current building has been around since the 1950s, making it more than 70 years old.

The town hopes the new more modern building will attract more people to the district after they saw an 18% decline between 2019 and 2023.

When the new school is complete, the current one will be knocked down to make room for a recreational field and parking.

Officials say the vacant Curtis Corner Middle School will also be demolished to make room for a new sports stadium.

Now the school committee wants the community to give feedback.

The $116 million project is expected to be complete in time for the 2027-28 school year.
