SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — It's a great time to be a Rams fan.
On Saturday, both the men's basketball and football teams have big games, with an opportunity to sustain their recent success.
At noon, the basketball team will look to keep their perfect season alive as they host the Providence College Friars at the Ryan Center. The Rams are 8-0 on the year, and they haven't won the annual in-state rivalry game since 2019.
The 6-3 Friars are coming off an 83-64 win over BYU at home.
The game will be broadcast live on the CBS Sports Network.
As for the football team, they'll be taking on the 7-seed Mercer Bears at 2 p.m. Saturday in the second round of the Division I FCS playoffs. The Rams, ranked #10 in the tournament, defeated Central Connecticut State in the opening round last weekend.
It was the team's eleventh win of the season, which is a program record. Their playoff berth was the Rams' first in nearly 40 years, and they could become the first team in URI history to win two playoff games in the same season.
A sendoff celebration will be held at 9:30 a.m. Friday in the Ram Lot on the north side of the Ryan Center. Families, friends and fans are invited to go cheer on the team before they head down to Georgia.
Saturday's game will be shown live on ESPN+. A free watch party will be held at the Ryan Center right after the men's basketball game.
