NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — The Narragansett Police Department officially has new leadership.
A swearing-in ceremony was held Monday evening during the town council meeting.
Chief Kyle Rekas was sworn in by his cousin, Judge Linda Rekas Sloan. She joked he only told her the night before he was getting sworn in so she stepped in to do the honors.
Rekas said he has thought about this day ever since he was first hired back on March 15, 1999.
"Almost 26 years later, here I am standing in front of you fine people as the police chief," he said. "I am honored. I am blessed. And this truly is a dream come true."
Rekas takes over for Chief Sean Corrigan who retired last month after 28 years of service.
