NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Travel on Route 138 underneath the Tower Hill Road Bridge in North Kingstown will soon be reduced down to one lane in each direction.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT) said crews have begun shifting the lanes to the left on the eastbound side to create new work zones.
RIDOT is planning to start shifting lanes to the left on the westbound side on Friday.
Drivers will still have access to the Route 1 bridge, as well as the nearby on- and off-ramps.
The work is expected to take about three months.
The $35.8 million project will eventually replace the 55-year-old structurally deficient bridge.
RIDOT said crews will also be resurfacing more than six miles of Route 1 from the Route 4 split in North Kingstown to the Oliver Stedman Government Center in South Kingstown.
