NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — North Kingstown police are alerting the community to a recent phone scam.
In a social media post, the department said a resident was called by someone posing as a police officer.
The caller told the victim there was a warrant out for their arrest and demanded pre-paid gift cards in order to clear the warrant.
North Kingstown police said officers will never call asking for pre-paid gift cards or money to clear a warrant.
