SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, proper car seats save the lives of 325 children under 5 each year.

The agency stresses the importance of choosing the best seat to keep your child safe as they age, as well as the importance of making sure all car seats are installed correctly.

That's why this month, the South Kingstown Police Department is offering to check children's car seats for free.

From 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. on July 30, the department's certified technicians will be at the Wakefield Mall, 160 Old Tower Hill Road, to help install and check car seats.

The department says it is not necessary to make an appointment before stopping by.
