NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) - A Wickford Middle School employee will not be returning to the district following an investigation into inappropriate letters, according to a message sent to the North Kingstown school community Thursday.
According to the letter, the investigation was launched after the employee wrote letters to students "in a tone and language not acceptable." The employee was immediately placed on administrative leave, according to the letter.
Superintendent Kenneth Duva confirmed to 12 News that the employee was not a teacher, but he declined to provide any more specific detail about the individual.
"As a result of this being a personnel matter I cannot release any confidential information," he wrote in an email.
Duva said a parent and Wickford Middle School's principal notified him of the situation on June 11, and the district reported the issue to both the R.I. Department of Children, Youth and Families and North Kingstown police.
The letter also requested that all Wickford Middle School parents speak with their children about appropriate interactions between students and staff and included related resources.
