SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — Approximately 2,600 customers lost power Thursday afternoon after wires were knocked down in South Kingstown.
The incident happened on Kingstown Road, right outside the South Kingstown Police Department. Route 108 was shut down from Saugatucket Road to Southwinds Drive.
Rhode Island Energy said weather-related issues may have caused a transformer to blow. A live wire was seen burning on the ground.
The roadway has since been reopened.
