CHARLESTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — The Tomaquag Museum in Charlestown is inviting the community to celebrate Strawberry Thanksgiving on Saturday, June 8.
According to Seneca Prophet Handsome Lake, strawberries have been celebrated as the first fruit of the year and as a symbol of good things to come.
The Tomaquag Museum has been celebrating Strawberry Thanksgiving for decades. This year's celebration will be at Ninigret Park from noon until 4 p.m.
There will be music, demonstrations and shopping with Indigenous vendors.
