SOUTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — A local coffee shop is partnering with police to encourage the community to drive sober and stay safe.

The Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association (RIPCA) launched a new initiative urging people to reconsider that "one last drink for the road."

Audrey’s Coffee House & Lounge in South Kingstown didn’t hesitate to get involved when approached with the idea.

Now, customers at Audrey’s will receive a cup sleeve with the message:

"Make this your one for the road. DRIVE SOBER."

It also includes a QR code linking to a website with information on impaired driving, including prevention efforts, the effects of alcohol and cannabis, and DUI consequences.

"If you scan it, brings you right to the police chiefs' website, just giving all tips and letting people know about what they can do to avoid drinking and driving and just driving safely to keep the community safe," Audrey's owner Jared Haibon explained.

Those caught driving under the influence face steep fines, license suspension, or even jail time—so it's better to grab a latte instead.

"Impaired driving is a significant safety issue in all of our communities, and we are always seeking new ways to engage our community and remind them to drive sober," RIPCA President and Woonsocket Police Chief Thomas Oates said.

Rhode Island coffee shop owners who are interested in participating can contact info@ripolicechiefs.org.
