EXETER, R.I. (WPRI) — An investigation is underway after a car crashed into the woods off I-95 North in Exeter on Thursday.
The Exeter 2 Volunteer Fire Department posted on Facebook that they responded just before 7:30 a.m. to the area between the weigh station and Route 165 overpass. They arrived to find the driver outside of the vehicle with Rhode Island State Police.
The initial reports said the driver had removed themselves from the car after spending several hours trapped inside, according to the fire department. The driver was taken to the hospital.
Images provided by the department show the car deep in the woods, covered by fallen trees and debris.
The department said they helped the R.I. Department of Transportation clear a path for a tow company to remove the car. The scene was clear in less than an hour.
It's unclear what led up to the crash.
