MACON, Ga. (WPRI) -- URI's historic season that saw them make the FCS playoffs for the first time since 1985 has come to an end.
They lost in Georgia on Saturday afternoon against Mercer University in the second round.
URI advanced in the tournament after beating the Central Connecticut Blue Devils 21-17 last week in Kingston.
Quarterback Hunter Helms completed 22 out of 33 throws during the game for 266 yards. He had one touchdown and threw one interception. Wide receiver Marquis Buchanan had 11 catches for 119 yards and was the one touchdown.
The team ended their season with a record of 11-3.
