NARRAGANSETT, R.I. (WPRI) — The Narragansett Town Council voted to renew Boon Street Market's liquor license Monday night.
The eatery, which offers different food stalls, bar areas, outdoor seating, and more, opened in June.
Residents who live nearby have expressed frustration over traffic, crowds, trash, public urination, and noise since the restaurant opened.
The business, which has pushed back for months, said they've made the necessary changes, including adding more bathrooms, adjusting speakers, removing an outdoor stage for live music, and putting up signs urging patrons to be respectful.
In November, the council had a chance to vote on the issue but it was tabled because the new council was so close to taking over.
Narragansett Town Hall was packed as residents took turns addressing their concerns with the business. Several residents explained that they don't want the eatery to close altogether, but they do want more restrictions in place.
Boon Street Market is allowed to remain open through 1 a.m. with stipulations. The eatery must stop live music at 9 p.m. and turn off its outdoor speakers at 11 p.m.
The council will revisit the restaurant's liquor license again in four months, which should give the owners enough time to adjust.
