NORTH KINGSTOWN, R.I. (WPRI) — A Warwick man accused of hitting and killing a tricycle rider with his car over the summer in North Kingstown faced a judge Monday morning.

Daniel Famiglietti, 59, pleaded not guilty to driving under the influence resulting in death and driving to endanger resulting in death.

Famiglietti was driving down Boston Neck Road back in June when he hit Linda Sherman, 53, from behind as she was riding her tricycle in breakdown lane, according to police. Sherman was rushed to Kent Hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

Police said Famiglietti retired from the Providence Police Department in early 2022. Famiglietti was ordered held on a $20,000 surety bond pending his next court date, which is scheduled for Dec. 2.

Sherman's friends previously told 12 News that she was a pillar within the community and a dedicated physical therapist at Newport Hospital.
