HOPKINTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The Hope Valley Ambulance Squad wants you to add naloxone to your first aid kit.

Naloxone, commonly referred to as Narcan, is a drug that can reverse the effects of an overdose.

The ambulance service is partnering with URI's Community First Responder Program (CFRP) to host a drive giving out free doses of the life-saving drug.

Organizers said getting naloxone to more people could have a big impact, since it helps buy first responders more time after someone overdoses.

The naloxone drive will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 15, at 5 Fairview Ave. in Hopkinton.

CFRP will also ship naloxone free of charge to anyone who takes a short online course.
