KINGSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — The University of Rhode Island has been named the number one public university in New England, according to a new ranking from the Wall Street Journal.
The ranking also placed URI 35th among all public universities nationwide and 84th overall among the 500 schools in the ranking.
"This ranking reflects our values, so it is not surprising to me that we are one of the highest-ranked public flagship universities," URI President Marc Parlange said. "URI makes a difference in people’s lives, and that’s what this ranking recognizes."
"We are committed to providing broad access to a high-quality academic experience and to ensuring that students have the support and resources they need to succeed," he continued. "And we are incredibly proud of the success and impact of our graduates, who are making a real difference throughout Rhode Island and around the globe."
According to the list, the next closest public university from New England to make the top 100 was the University of Connecticut at 99.
The rankings score colleges on student outcomes, learning environment and diversity.
