WESTERLY, R.I. (WPRI) — A young girl is being checked out after she was hit by a car Thursday afternoon in Westerly.
Westerly Police Chief Paul Gingerella told 12 News the 8-year-old was chasing a cat across Bradford Road when she was struck.
The girl's mother was running after her, the chief said, and the driver tried to stop prior to the collision.
The girl's injuries are minor, but she was taken to the hospital as a precaution, according to Gingerella.
He also said the driver was not at fault.
